There is no sound from people.
There is only the sound of waves bumping against the
rocky coast. The sun goes down behind the horizon, and
the sea begins to turn into red. I see the fishing boats
with large nets. The gray sea gulls fly in the red and
orange sky. Sometimes they fly down to the surface of
the sea to pick up tin fish. On the coast, the shells
reflect many different bright colors and the blue crabs
run fast, trying not to be swept by the waves. |

The sick cow stood
alone apart from her herd. she lowered her head and
bent her hind legs. A bull approached her, licked her
ears, and returned to the herd. For a while, the cow
did not move. Then she fell onto her side without a
sound. She was almost gone now. The other cows and bulls
formed a circle around her. They stayed beside the dead
cow for a long while. At dusk, the herd moved away together,
leaving the cow alone.

Responding in my patrol car
to an accident, I found two cars in the street. One
of the drivers smelled of alco-hol, so I began a test
by having him walk on the center line. At that moment,
another car appeared and hit one of the stopped vehicles.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but in the confusion
my drunk-driving suspect disappeared. A few minutes
later, another police car arrived with my suspect in
the back seat. "I caught this guy five blocks away,"
said one of the officers, "walking down the middle
of the street."

The fog was very
thick. It was so thick that at times even the white
line on the road disappeared in my sight. I looked at
the gas gauge. The needle had already dropped near the
bottom. Suddenly, something appeared ahead. It was a
road sign. I got off my car and looked closely at the
sign. But I couldn't figure out where I was. I looked
up at the night sky. But I couldn't see any star which
might help me to find way home. |
